The town council is setting up a meeting with highways bosses to discuss the possibility of putting double yellow lines on Stakesby Road.

It is also being suggested it become a designated ‘residents only’ parking zone along with Upgang Lane.

Councillors discussed the issue at a meeting on Tuesday night after another summer of parking congestion and problems in the town.

Cllr Phil Trumper said: “It is becoming more difficult to drive up Stakesby Road and some days it is impossible. Last week there were traffic jams all the way up to the rugby club.

“It needs double yellows straggling either side to stop double parking. All it takes is someone to walk out and there is an accident.

“Maybe Stakesby Road and Upgang Lane should be residents parking? It all needs a rethink of how we are going to police it because it is becoming ridiculous.”

It was agreed to contact the county council after further issues were raised around Rosedale Close and the surgery and Meadowfields.
