The woman was mountain biking in Langdale Forest to meet her husband at May Beck when she became disorientated.

A good description of where she was to police placed her close to the edge of Fylingdales Moor, to the east of RAF Fylingdales.

Scarborough and Ryedale Mountain Rescue Team were alerted at 8.22pm and sent their vehicles to search in the forest while one team member joined Ministry of Defence Police from RAF Fylingdales on the moors.

The woman was found quickly and, other than being cold, was safe and well.

After confirming her husband had got home safely, the rescue volunteers drove her and her bike home in one of their vehicles.

The team posted on social media: "It is not uncommon for people to become disorientated in the woodland in darkness but she did all the right things after that - called the police, provided a good location via her smartphone to the police, had sufficient charge in the phone to speak to our incident controller and held her position until we got to her."
