THE Runswick Bay Rescue Boat launched for the first time this year on Saturday (5 Feb) to rescue a boat which had got into difficulty in the ‘Bay.
The volunteer run vessel launched at 1.45pm to help a 5m RIB (Rigid Inflatable Boat).
A Runswick crewman on duty observed the RIB having trouble restarting their engine and concern grew as the boat continued to float towards rocks.
The duty helmsman and a second duty crewman were contacted and the boat launched.
The RIB’s crew of one man and his dog were then towed back to shore where they were met by Staithes Coastgaurd.
Aside from weekly training exercises, this is the first time this year that Runswick Bay Rescue Boat has launched.
