Recommended refusal of Bar Seven plans

A PLAN to develop Bar Seven and the Quayside Fish Restaurant on Pier Road was recommended for refusal by Whitby Town Council’s planning committee on Tuesday.

Councillors were split on the proposals to change the use of the second floor from a holiday let to a function room, with committee chair Coun Phil Trumper saying: “I think it would be an improvement on what’s there.”

The development would feature a large sign on the side of the existing building, similar to that currently in place on the Magpie Cafe, but Coun Amanda Smith expressed reservations about the visual impact this would have, as well as concerns about the increased amount of vertical drinking space.

Increased noise pollution was also cited as a reason for recommending refusal of the plans, which was done on a majority verdict.
