NEWHOLM residents succeeded in raising £2,000 for the construction of a car park in front of their village hall.
Hall trustee Jane Snoxell said: “Another of our trustees, Antonella Jones, wrote to the Normanby Trust which supports local projects and got £1,000.
“Local fundraisers including the Queen Bee Quilters who are regular users of the hall raised another £1,000.
“There was a rough piece of ground in front of it where people parked their cars and we’ve now had it surfaced. It all looks much better.
“We’re a very small community and with the hall we just about cover our running costs.
“One way is with a permanent bring and buy stall. People bring anything they don’t want for it and also buy from it. Everything is 50p which is put in a tin.
“In the past ten years it’s raised £1,600 which helps to pay for things like the electricity.”
The village hall was built in the 1920s with money raised by local people.
