When all you want is a period holiday cottage that you can get straight into and use, it is really disappointing how many of the cottages on offer need serious renovation, if not almost completely rebuilding.
Just occasionally, however, a cottage comes along that is well-presented and Viewley is that cottage.
Refurbished over recent years the cottage is charming and quirky.
With modern plumbing and wiring, gas central heating and smart modern fixtures and fittings much is new, but the classic pale painted colour scheme and the retained period details means that the best of the old has been retained too.
There are two double sized bedrooms, of which one has an en-suite shower room and the other has an en-suite cloakroom plus a bath in the bedroom.
The kitchen has a half glazed stable style door to the side and a small window facing onto the back steps up towards the outbuilding. Part panelled walls and part exposed stonework, laminate flooring and exposed beams. It is fitted with a good quality, hand-made suite of painted wooden cabinets with block-wood oak worktops.
The whole of the ground floor is a split-level, open plan area and there is even a store shed for those things to be kept out of the house like beach gear or bikes.
Situated on Fisherhead, to the south of New Road, Viewley Cottage lies in an area that has rather fewer tourists passing-by than the busier streets to the north and yet still has easy access down to the Dock, the pubs and the beach, as well as to those areas of the village in which you can obtain car parking.
There are views down to the sea and across towards Ravenscar from the doorstep. Perhaps it’s worth a peek!
