Polly crusade gets some extra muscle
Strongwomen from across the UK descended on a Leigh gym to be pictured for a new calendar in aid of a gravely ill mum.
Gadbury Fold mother-of-three Polly Haydock has colorectal cancer and was given just six months to live in July.
But the 37-year-old is now receiving what is hoped will be life-saving immunotherapy treatment in Germany which is expected to cost around £250,000.
Gym-goers at Break The Bar joined in the fund-raising effort to help Polly and her family as the venue owner Trev Cunliffe knows her.
Regulars at the English Street venue Ceri Goodwin, Learna Brown, Kathryn Baker, Sarah Osnov and Helen Stoller were joined for the photoshoot by Susanna Foy from Morecambe and Claire Leathem who travelled all the way from Birmingham.
The group will pose doing deadlifts, car pulls and other events associated with the strongman competition for the calendar, with photographer and gym member Rebecca Swallow behind the lens.
Rebecca, from Dressing Up Box Photography, said: “It is so amazing that all the girls have come together to do this for Polly. It’s also done a lot for them on a personal level in making the calendar. They are all here supporting each other and given them confidence and a real sense of being happy in themselves.”
Polly’s husband Dan said: “The calendar sounds amazing and is just the boost the fund needs.”
A massive fund-raising appeal hit the headlines last week when Bolton comedian Peter Kay said he would take to the stage for a special fund-raising show in Blackpool to help. Fund-raisers have also been held with donations ensuring the total is currently over £30,000.
The calendar will be available from early December priced £12.50. For more visit www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/strong4polly
