WHITBY’S poppy sellers will be out in force next week as they try and make this year’s collection “the best ever.”
With the retirement of key members of the Whitby branch of the British Legion, a new dedicated team of six members have been working hard to make sure that this year’s poppy appeal goes without a hitch.
Joe Wells has taken over as the chairman, treasurer is Stan Grisedale and secretary is Deeanne Mccabe.
Juyle Sutherland is the membership secretary along with Karen Jeffrey and Dave Helliwell.
The 2012 collection will kick off in the Co-op on Monday and street collectors will be at the bandstand on Saturday 10 November.
This is where the annual special service takes place to remember those lost at sea.
And, on Remembrance Sunday collectors will be at two services taking place in the town on the day.
The first one is at Pannett Park at 11am and the second at St Mary’s Church at 2.30pm.
Mrs McCabe said: “We would like to thank Frank Bull, Derek Tyreman and Mr Gallon for the years of hard work that they put in and everyone who has volunteered this year.”
If anyone would like to buy a wreath this year contact the secretary on (01947) 825755.
