Scarborough Mayor Hazel Lynskey to get extended term as coronavirus puts mayor-making ceremony on hold

This means the Mayor of Scarborough, Cllr Hazel Lynskey will be kept in the role until it is deemed safe to hold the meeting.

Hide AdCllr Lynskey had been due to hand over the chains of office to Cllr Eric Broadbent on Thursday (21st).
The Local Democracy Reporting Service understands that one possible solution would be to have Conservative Cllr Lynskey serve an 18-month term with Labour Cllr Broadbent then doing the same to get the schedule back on track for 2022/23.
At Thursday’s meeting, Cllr Roxanne Murphy of the Independent Group was to have been named as Deputy Mayor, taking over from Cllr Roberta Swiers of the Conservatives.
The mayor is the town’s first citizen and has the civic responsibility of representing and promoting the borough as well as chairing meetings of the full council.
