General Election 2019: everything you need to know in Scarborough and Whitby as countdown begins

Polling stations will be open tomorrow, Thursday December 12, from 7am till 10pm. Counting will start shortly afterwards.

If you're still confused about the election and what you need to do to cast your vote, here's a simple guide on candidates and polling stations.

Who can I vote for?

There are four candidates standing in this year's General Election to represent the constituency of Scarborough and Whitby.

They are Conservative Robert Goodwill, Labour's Hugo Fearnley, Liberal Democrat Robert Graham Lockwood and Lee Derrick from The Yorkshire Party.

Those living in Filey, Hunmanby, Folkton, Flixton, Primrose Valley, Speeton, Reighton and Muston will be voting in respect of the Thirsk and Malton constituency.

Candidates standing to represent it are Conservative Kevin Hollinrake, Labour's David Yellen, Liberal Democrat Dinah Keal, John Hall from The Yorkshire Party, Martin Brampton from The Green Party, Independent Gordon Johnson, Independent Steve Mullins and Michael Taylor from the Social Democratic Party.

Where should I vote?

There have been a few changes to the location of polling stations in the borough.

Friarage School and Barrowcliff School will no longer be used as polling stations. Residents have been asked to cast their votes at Queen Street Methodist Church and Briercliffe Children’s Centre instead.

St Mark’s Community Hall on Coldyhill Lane is not being used as a polling station for this election. In a temporary change, voters will use the TA Centre, MPC Army Reserve, on Coldyhill Lane.

How do I vote?

If you are registered to vote (deadline to register passed on November 26) you can simply turn up at your polling station and cast your ballot. You don't have to bring ID and you don't need your polling card.
