Countdown to Mayor's Charity Ball in Scarborough begins

The countdown to the annual charity ball hosted by the Mayor of the Borough of Scarborough, in partnership with the Rotary Club of Scarborough, officially got underway this week.

The Mayor and Consort, Cllr Hazel Lynskey and Mike Lynskey, and members of the Mayor’s Charity Ball committee, including representatives from the Rotary Club, gathered at the Town Hall in Scarborough on Monday January 14 to mark the start of the promotion of the ball, which will take place on Friday March 27 in the Ocean Room at Scarborough Spa.

Star of stage and screen Christopher Biggins will be the guest speaker at the fundraising event.

There will be live music throughout the evening from The Rich Adams Trio.

A grand draw for a wide range of prizes will take place and local auctioneer, David Duggleby, will be the voice of the evening’s charity auction.

Organisations supporting the event by donating prizes or through sponsorship include Booker, Broadland Properties Limited and Peace of Mind Financial Solutions Limited.

All monies raised from the evening will benefit local charities and organisations throughout the Borough of Scarborough including Whitby, Scarborough and Filey.

Funds will be distributed by the Borough of Scarborough Community Fund Committee later this year.

Cllr Hazel Lynskey, Mayor of the Borough of Scarborough said: “I’m delighted that we’ve been able to secure the wonderful Christopher Biggins as our guest speaker.

"Everyone on the organising committee is really looking forward to a fantastic evening’s entertainment and the opportunity for different parts of our borough community to come together to raise money for many worthy local causes. We hope you can join us and help to make this another successful year of fundraising.”

John Riby, President of the Rotary Club of Scarborough added: “The Rotary Club is once again delighted to support the Mayor and her team in the organising of what has become an annual event.

"The council and Rotary Club have many mutual ambitions, not least in trying to help in the wellbeing of our community.

"We are excited by what is being planned for this year’s Mayor’s Ball. It promises to be a great evening and we hope that the monies raised will be significant and importantly, make a difference for many groups and people borough wide.”

Organisations and individuals that would like to donate a prize for the grand draw or an item for the charity auction, or support the event in another way, should email [email protected]Dress code for the evening will be black tie/lounge suit and cocktail/evening dress.

Tickets include a three course meal and tables of ten places can be purchased together for large groups.
