Police warn over spate of distraction burglaries

A property in Whitby has been one of several targeted across North Yorkshire by two men stealing cash and jewellery say police.

They are warning households, in particular the elderly to be aware following the spate last week.

The distraction technique is knocking on the door of elderly people stating their ball has been kicked into the back garden. While the home owner takes one to get the ball, the other man searches the house and steals property.

The Whitby incident was on Mayfield Road and others have been at Scarborough, Filey, Malton, Boroughbridge and Great Ayton.

Police are asking for information to 101.
