Youngsters at Sleights Primary School raised £837.80 for a charity in support of one of their fellow classmate – by having a sleepover in the school hall.
Class three youngsters decided to raise vital cash for Chron’s and Colitis UK as their friend Ted suffers from Chron’s Disease.
Armed with popcorn, pizza, sleeping bags and tents, the children watched the musical The Greatest Showman as they enjoyed a sleepover in the hall. But they weren’t allowed up too late – they had lessons the next day.
Class teacher Lucy Stubbs said: “We spoke about different charities that meant something to people and decided to raise money by having a sleepover.”
Assistant Director of Learning at North Yorkshire County Council, Judith Kirk, herself a former teacher, was delighted to accept the cheque on behalf of Chron’s and Colitis UK at a school assembly. The youngsters have also been busy with their Archbishop of York Youth Trist activities, which have included cleaning up the local park and visiting resident at Esk Hall care home in the village as part of their young leaders award.
