The Bank Holiday weekend almost ended in disaster after a person jumped around 12 feet onto a harbour pontoon in Whitby while "under the influence."
Coastguard and ambulance crews rushed to the scene on St Annes' Staith at the weekend to reports that a casualty had suffered injuries after jumping over railings.
A spokesman for the Coastguard said: "On arrival, Whitby Coastguard team found the casualty already in the care of the ambulance crew.
"Following further investigation it was apparent that the casualty, whilst under the influence of alcohol, had jumped over the railings on St Annes' Staith onto a pontoon approximately 12 feet below.
"The casualty was found to have minor injuries but was transported to James Cook Hospital for further examination."
