Whitby welcomes Tomorrow's Ghosts festival - here's a round-up of what's going on over the weekend

Roll out the black carpet, the UK’s goth-rock overlords The Mission are landing in Whitby to perform at the Tomorrow’s Ghosts festival at Whitby Pavilion.

It is the last Tomorrow’s Ghosts for 12 months as organisers announced that they would have to cancel the spring festival due to escalating costs.

However, there is plenty on over the weekend of October 27 to 29.

Friday night headliners The Mission, formed back in 1985, are no strangers to deafening huge crowds while supporting the likes of U2, The Cure, The Cult and Robert Plant over the years, earning one of the most fearsome live reputations in the business.

Revellers can also enjoy a Saturday night headline set from Finnish Goth ‘n’ Roll supremos The 69 Eyes, with special guests Theatre of Hate, Yorkshire post punk mavericks The March Violets, plus an exclusively curated performance of Singles & EPs 1983-86 from Salvation, especially for the Whitby gig.

Leading industrial rock outfit Auger and Whitby goth scene legends Westenra will also be painting the town black.

Renowned music journalist and author John Robb published his labour of love to the goth genre in The Art of Darkness: A History Of Goth, a new book that promises the first ever complete overview of Goth culture.

After a decade of work, countless interviews, and immersion deep into the culture, John Robb's definitive book documents a journey deep into The Art Of Darkness.

He will be appearing at Whitby Pavilion to talk about it in-person on the Saturday, with a special live Q&A with goth originals Rosie Garland and Tom Ashton of The March Violets.

Tickets for the event are currently still available.

Club nights are to take place each night at the Whitby Pavilion, with alt/rock DJ royalty Carpe Noctum taking the reins for a death disco into the early hours, while Gothic and alternative markets at the festival are free entry and are open between 10am to 5pm, on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
