Whitby actress set to star in 'ridiculous, chaotic' new TV sitcom

Alexandra De Villeay from Whitby is part of a northern cast including former Coronation Street actor Billy Doherty.

Filming for Episode 1 of the sitcom has been completed after being stalled by the Covid-19 pandemic.

An exclusive online screening - for ticket holders only - will take place on Monday (Dec 21) and will be available for seven days until December 28.

Filming to complete the series is now set for early next year and the full series is scheduled to premiere on-air in Autumn 2021 with the broadcaster yet to be announced.

Briefs is a sitcom revolving around the day-to-day life of a 'not so average’ High Street legal practice which is ridiculous, chaotic and altogether mixed up.

The show boasts a northern cast and crew including Billy Doherty and Redcar-based actor Andy Tate as well as Rob Kirtley, who is from Newcastle.

Filming for the first episode took place recently in Osmotherley.

Briefs was written by actress, writer and qualified barrister Teresa Taylor, who credits working as a barrister as giving her the inspiration and material to write the show.

Teresa said: "The characters and situations that appear in the show have been rooted in my experiences.

"Though they are somewhat exaggerated, it’s safe to say that many professionals - regardless of industry - will recognise their own experiences being reflected in the show.”

Teresa has taken the unususal step of allowing the public to view episode one in an exclusive online Christmas screening for ticket holders only.

Viewers will be able to buy tickets for the screening, which takes place on December 21.

Regarding the event, Teresa said: “Due to the film industry now struggling, many commissioners for TV channels were furloughed and there was a real reluctance to taking a punt on new productions in the current climate.

"We are consequently self-funding this TV series completely.

"We would love to spread some Christmas joy and cheer by taking the unusual step of sharing our first episode with our wonderful supporters and in doing so it also allows us to raise some much-needed funds to complete the production.”
