Two vehicles were hit by a trailer after it became detached from a tractor in Brompton-by-Sawdon yesterday.

A police officer on patrol came across the crash, which blocked the A170, just after 1pm.

A car and a van were hit by the trailer which police understand became detached from a tractor travelling in the opposite direction because of a mechanical failure.

One driver was checked over by paramedics at the scene as a precaution.

Officers arranged for the damaged vehicles to be recovered and for the road surface to be cleared up.

The road was blocked following the collision and reopened at 3.20pm.
