Organisers have posted on their fundraising page: “2020 has been a horrid and for some a truly devastating year and so as we enter the Christmas holidays, the South Bay wanted to give a little back to the community as well as bringing a touch of sparkle and Christmas magic to the harbour.

“Thanks to the generosity of Boyes stores, Dalby Offshore, Scarborough Yacht Club, South Bay Traders, the local fishing community, The Regal Lady and Seagrown, we are lighting up the harbour as well as asking you to help raise some much needed funds for Saint Catherine’s, Scarborough Sea Cadets and the Rainbow Centre."

The fund raising includes a children’s Christmas photo contest, with under-16s invited to send in their best shots of the harbour lights by night.

There will be prizes available for the winner and runners up.
