Sleights man helps NHS staff to identify each other while wearing PPE

Sean Danby, of SD Signs, was talking with a friend who works in James Cook intensive care unit. He discovered that there has been an issue with staff being unable to identify each other due to the PPE that they are wearing.

He immediately set to work designing a range of coloured stickers and boards to ensure that each member of staff was easily identifiable.

Sean, 31, said: “We have donated hundreds of items to the unit. We hope that this can help, even just slightly, their daily working life.”

It’s a little different to Sean’s usual line of work which is making more traditional signage for shop fronts and hotels, as well as making custom designed vehicle wrap, such as that currently on display on Botham’s delivery vans.

Sean said that creating the signs was his way of thanking the hospital for the care received by eight-month-old son when he was born last year.

Vinyl supply company Metamark have also helped by donating a 50m roll of vinyl.

The stickers have been such a success that staff at James Cook have requested he makes many more and a second batch will be in production shortly.

Sean didn’t settle for just creating the signs. He and partner Lauren decided to raise money to buy the staff hand and face creams to help soothe the irritation caused by the equipment they have to wear.
