Scarborough Park & Ride returns & open top buses are back along the Yorkshire Coast

Scarborough’s Park and Ride and Beachcomber open top buses will return for the summer next week as easing lockdown restrictions gradually allow the town to come to life.

The Beachcomber open top buses allow travellers to experience stunning views along the Yorkshire Coast as local bus company East Yorkshire

In Scarborough, Beachcomber Red will run along Scarborough seafront every day from Monday April 12 until the end of October.

Visitors will be able to hop on board and enjoy the journey from The Spa in South Bay to The Sands to enjoy the sights of North Bay, then travel past North Bay Railway, Peasholm Park and Alpamare to Sea Life.

Buses will run around every 12 minutes at busy times and every 20 minutes at quieter times of the year.

In Bridlington, Beachcomber Blue returns from April 17, running every weekend and during school holidays until October 31.

Beachcomber Blue has extra journeys this year, allowing people to travel between Bridlington, Sewerby Hall, Flamborough and Thornwick Bay holiday village.

Ben Gilligan, Area Director of East Yorkshire, said: “We’re delighted to be bringing our Beachcomber buses back for what is set to be a fantastic season.

“With an expected increase in people holidaying in the UK this year, we’re excited to be able to show new and returning visitors the sights along the coast as part of their holiday.”

The Filey Road Park and Ride site will operate daily from April 12 until October 31 offering buses at least every 15 minutes into the town centre, from just after 7am (9am on

Sundays). The return journey from Aquarium Top (South Bay) or York Place will operate until around 6.45pm.

Mr Gilligan said: “We’re pleased to be operating the Park and Ride again as we progress through the government’s roadmap out of lockdown.

“As more people visit the town, using the Park and Ride is the easiest way to get into Scarborough, avoiding the hassle of finding and paying for a parking space while helping to

reduce congestion.”

Day return tickets are just £2.40, or £1.20 with a valid concessionary pass. Children travel free (up to 3 under 18s free with each adult ticketholder) and there are also weekly and monthly tickets starting at just £10..
