It’s Sci-Fi Scarborough this weekend - but not as you know it!

This weekend’s Sci-Fi Scarborough (SFS) convention is set to go ahead online after organisers found a way to beat the coronavirus lockdown.

Serious consideration had been given as to whether any part of the event could continue after being forced to cancel on March 16.

After looking at what other sci-fi conventions were doing and after several sleepless nights organisers decided to take the event online.

SFS fans are being encouraged to dig out their favorite photos from the last six years of SFS whether they be of special guests, cosplayers or generally any that are downright crazy!

The cosplay competition will be taking place in picture form, with entrants encouraged to create inventive backdrops to create extra points!

Organiser Steve Dickinson said: “It’s such a very unusual situation we’re in. People like to chat and hang out. It was such a shame not to do anything at all.

“Some guests will be doing Q&A and a live show from home, out of everyone we’ve asked, not one persons has said no.”

The Trader Out-Post where you can cast your eye over cool stuff and deal direct with the trader

Live painting from a very fishy character

Lunch break - where guests are invited to share images of sci-fi related food

An authors workshop

Live and recorded guest panels from a few of this year’s superstars

Leeds/Bradford Starfleet with the new merchandise lines,

Mad raffle, magic and juggling performances

The Geek Pub Quiz to finish with a few picture rounds to tax your memory

The event will be free to attend and the full itinerary will be on Sci-Fi Scarborough’s Facebook page on Friday night.

The fun starts at 10am and is expected to go on until 6pm.
