Many took advantage of what was the hottest March day in 53 years to enjoy the beach while others took to newly-reopened Scarborough Castle and Whitby Abbey.

But with the sunshine forecast to continue today, there have been warnings not to "blow it" by breaching coronavirus restrictions.

Health Secretary Matt Hancock wrote on Twitter: "Let’s enjoy the sun but let’s do it safely. We have come so far, don’t blow it now."
