Giant sand drawing on Whitby beach by Hebden Bridge-based artists encourages people to socially distance

A giant sand drawing encouraging people to social distance appeared yesterday on Whitby beach.

Artists from Hebden Bridge-based Sand In Your Eye created the drawing to encourage visitors to Yorkshire’s tourist destinations to visit responsibly and adhere to social distancing.

laire Wardley from Sand In Your Eye, said: “The drawing depicts a person wearing a face covering made up of lines that are 2m apart and contained within a coronavirus cell.

Welcome to Yorkshire Chief Executive James Mason said: "Yorkshire is blessed with so many beautiful tourist destinations such as Whitby and we need visitors to help maintain our local economies.

"However, as the drawing clearly states, we need to do this responsibly."
