Earthquake of magnitude 2.8 shakes homes in Teesside

An earthquake with a magnitude of 2.8 struck Teesside early today, causing some homes to shake.

Cleveland Police said it received 15 reports from the public regarding the reported earthquake at around 6am this morning. Officers attended a number of addresses with colleagues from the fire service. No-one had been injured.

The website Earthquake Track said the epicentre was six miles beneath Stockton.

The tremor was felt across Stockton, Billingham, Hartlepool, Wolviston and Middlesbrough.

People on social media said they had been woken up, and some said they had felt their house shake.
