People advised to avoid crabbing in Whitby harbour due to sewage issues
People are being advised to avoid crabbing from pontoons in Whitby harbour as work gets underway to repair a fault at the sewage pumping station.
A team of engineers are working to fix the problem which Yorkshire Water says has caused "temporary water quality issues in the harbour."
Contract partners Mott McDonald Bentley, who are specialists in this kind of repair work, emptied waste water from the pumping station last night in an effort to get into the bottom of the tank to fix the problem.
A spokesman for Yorkshire Water said: "We are working hard to fix the pumping station as soon as possible and will keep residents and businesses updated with our progress."
