Letter: Council's priority should be Whitby harbour
Whitby has a rich fishing background.
We have a skilled workforce, we build world-class trawlers and we have a unique and award-winning fishing school.
Our MP would be better occupied persuading Scarborough Borough Council to look after Whitby Harbour as they should.
Scarborough Borough Council is responsible for all aspects of our harbour and for the wellbeing of its users, but the borough council seems to put yet more obstacles in the way of our local fishing industry:
The harbour has been silting up since the dredger died six months ago;
The fish vans’ loading area at Pier Road has been cluttered with tacky little kiosks;
There is no quayside ice since the ice house was demolished years ago;
The piers and extensions which protect our town from rough seas are knackered.
