Olympic silver medal-winning gymnast Louis Smith MBE has visited Harrogate’s Ashville College where he spent a morning coaching and inspiring young gymnasts.
Nearly 40 children attending the inaugural three-day Louis Smith Gymnastics Academy were treated to the visit by the 26-year-old former Strictly Coming Dancing winner and Tumble judge.
The session with Louis kicked off with him answering questions from his audience, which included where he got his inspiration from, how many medals has he won and does he own any pets?
This was followed by him signing autographs, posing for photographs and assisting with the coaching.
Ashville College’s events and lettings manager David Wilson said: “It was superb to welcome Louis to Ashville College for this inaugural gymnastic camp, and to see him interacting with the children.
“The gymnastic academy offers the young participants an invaluable opportunity to improve their gymnastic skills, and have a fantastic three days learning new skills and improving others.”
Mr Wilson added: “The Louis Smith Gymnastics Academy is the first of four sporting camps being staged at Ashville College this summer by Activate.
“Over the last few years we have built up a very strong relationship with the Activate team, and, from starting with just one summer cricket camp, by the end of this year we will have hosted eight individual camps.
“The remainder of the holiday will see boys and girls from all over the district taking part in cricket, netball and hockey training camps, where they will use the excellent indoor and outdoor sports facilities that Ashville College has to offer. Ashville has, and continues to, invest significantly in its sports provisions, which includes an all-weather pitch, new sports centre equipment and, currently under way, making significant improvements to its rugby pitches.
