NHS worker makes Romanian appeal

A PSYCHIATRIST from The Anchorage in Whitby is making an appeal to local people to help provide items for people suffering with mental health problems and learning disabilities in a Romanian hospital.

Nicola Taylor, who works for the Tees, Esk and WEar Valleys NHS Foundation trust, is asking people to put together a shoe box for a patient, so they can be delivered just in time for Christmas.

Nicola said: “This appeal is so important as the patients at the hospital have very little or no possessions at all. A shoe box containing essential items such as toothpaste will make such an unbelievable difference to their lives.”

Suggested items that can be included in a shoe box are shampoo, shower gel, gloves, underwear, hats, toothburshes and toothpaste or sanitary towels.

A £2 donation which can be attached to the outside of the box will cover transport costs, although this is not essential.

Shoe boxes can either be taken directly to The Anchorage at 11 Byland Road in Whitby, or contact Nicola on (01947) 820294.
