ITV arrived in Whitby today to film Victoria, a new period costume drama.
The actress Jenna Coleman (Doctor Who, Death Comes to Pemberley, Dancing on the Edge) will star as a young Queen Victoria in their major new drama series Victoria.
The ambitious eight-part drama follows the early life of Queen Victoria, from her ascension to the throne at the tender age of 18, through to her courtship and marriage to Prince Albert.
Victoria went on to rule for 63 years and was our longest serving monarch until she was overtaken by Elizabeth II on 9th September this year.
Extras waiting to be filmed explained how the new drama is also covering elements of The Chartist Movement.
Ian Smith, based in Cropton, supplied the horses and carriage which is supposed to be Queen Victoria’s.
He said: “We started filming in Bramham Park, then Newby Hall, Knaresborough, York and then Beverley.
“Ian’s carriage and horses are often used in films, most recently Limehouse Golam.”
Victoria is being produced by Mammoth Screen Productions.
