The book A Flavour of Whitby, a taster of the town’s picturesque past, has been reissued in an expanded edition.
Author Chris Scott Wilson includes more topics, new colour photos and a handy map in his new version of the book.
He said: “There were new aspects I had been originally unaware of, like the soap opera that was shot in Whitby in the 1970s, called Castle Haven which starred Kathy Staff – who was later to be Nora Batty in Last of the Summer Wine.
“Or the story of Whitby workhouse. History lurks in every footstep taken in the twisted streets and alleys.
“Explorers, painters, whalers, smugglers, all invariably tried to the sea from which they wrested a living and all overlooked and dominated by the abbey. Whitby is, without doubt, unique.”
A Flavour of Whitby is available for £12.99 from the author’s website www.chriswilson.co.uk – also from Whitby Bookshop, Guisborough Bookshop and The Book Corner in Saltburn.
