Hosts Whitby were at a disadvantage from the off with seven front-line players missing from the week before.

The depleted Whitby started well however, keeping pace with the strong Northern side in defence, while looking capable with the ball in attack.

Northern eventually capitalised on poor Maroons defence and decision-making when they crossed twice in quick succession to open up a 12-0 advantage after 35 minutes.

Northern struck again to push the score to 19-0 at half-time.

Half-time saw the introduction of Stuart Gildroy, Phil Stentiford and David Mahaffy, all three of whom hadn’t played this season.

While the second half effort remained valiant, Northern’s greater quality came to the fore, with the visitors pushing the score to 52-0.

Maroons prop Nathan Kaz crossed for a well-deserved try to make it 52-7 before Northern grabbed the final score to make it 69-7.

Whitby will hope to get off the mark away against Medicals on Saturday in what could be a relegation decider.
