A huge community effort has meant that Lythe CEVC School has achieved its ambition and now has its very own school minibus.
Over the last year, Friends of Lythe School (FoLS) has been raising extra money to be able to purchase a minibus for the school.
Over the past 12 months fundraising events have included a Sainsbury’s Bag Pack, the Sandsend Duck Race, Mulgrave Open Gardens and school events such as a Pancake Day sale.
Whitby Lions and The Mulgrave Estate also made donations to the cause.
The new minibus was officially welcomed to the school earlier this month during a whole school assembly of thanks which was followed by a blessing of the bus by Rev Malcolm Jackson.
The blue ribbon was cut by Sarah Peirson (Chairman of FoLS) and the bus is now ready to take students on many travels and trips.
Headteacher of the school Lisa Armstrong said: “I am delighted that we have such a fantastic resource to broaden opportunities for all our children, letting us plan big days out as well as many smaller trips as part of our day-to-day curriculum.
“The minibus has already taken our children to local sports tournaments and a marvellous early years foundation stage visit to May Beck and Falling Foss.
“We are also now attending bigger sporting events outside the immediate area, which would previously have been difficult to get to.
“Thank you again to all involved with this wonderful project.”
