Light and life recreated at Whitby Abbey

Whitby Abbey cut a colourful figure through the misty and moody skies this week in the run-up to Halloween.

It was illuminated to create a spooky spectacular sight and also to allow visitors to se the Abbey after dark.

New to the event this year, being staged by English Heritage, is that the colours change throughout the evening and also costumed characters from its grim past, including grave robbers and witches, give special performances.

Whitby Gazette photographer Gary Simpson captured this shot but see it for yourself tonight and tomorrow from
6-9.30pm with Dracula performances starting at 8.15pm.

Sarah Bedlington, Site Manager at Whitby Abbey, said: “Having the abbey illuminated allows visitors to come in and experience the site after dark whilst getting an insight into the rich history that inspired Dracula. We encourage Halloween fancy dress for this spectacular event.”
