Whitby's inshore lifeboat rushed out to sea at the weekend after a person fell from a yacht while one mile out to sea.
The casualty had been pulled back onto the boat when the life-saving team arrived and was immediately taken back to the RNLI station.
The lifeboat then returned to sea to help the yacht back into the harbour.
Whitby Coastguard crew attended the station and assisted with the transfer of the casualty, providing first aid until the ambulance arrived.
A spokesman for Whitby Coastguard said: "We hope this will serve as a timely reminder of the importance of wearing appropriate personal flotation device such as a life jacket or buoyancy aid at all times whilst on deck. In any coastal emergency call 999 for Coastguard."
