No party remained unscathed from the electorate’s wrath with a number of veteran councillors being dumped from Scarborough Town Hall.

The big-name casualties included outgoing mayor Pat Marsburg, Jane Kenyon and Mike Ward, with Cllr Ward losing out by just five votes.

But the story of the day is the success of Scarborough’s ruling Conservative group, which mirrored what the party did nationally and achieved a majority number of seats.

The final result: Conservative 26, Green 2, Independent 3, Labour 12, Labour & Co-op 2, UKIP 5.
