A lone kayaker was rescued by a fishing boat after falling into the sea near Staithes.
The Staithes and Runswick RNLI lifeboat was launched at 12.15pm yesterday (May 6) after a fishing vessel picked up a kayaker who had capsized two miles off Skinningrove.
The man, believed to be an Eastern European man in his forties living in Leeds, was in the water for more than 30 minutes.
The RNLI crew returned the man to the lifeboat station where he was treated for severe hypothermia. Ambulance crews then took him to James Cook Hospital in Middlesbrough.
