Injured skipper makes mayday call from yacht in Runswick Bay, near Whitby

Rescue teams were alerted to help an injured man by a mayday call from a yacht in Runswick Bay.

Staithes Coastguard, Staithes and Runswick RNLI and Runswick Bay Rescue Boat went to help the man shortly after 1pm on Sunday.

The skipper of a 25ft yacht has suffered a serious ankle injury.

He was taken to shore where he was given first aid and pain relief before being taken by ambulance to James Cook University Hospital for treatment.
