Hurricane Frank made his presence known in Whitby this week as winds battered the town.

A tree was blown over on to a car parked on St Hilda’s Terrace on Wednesday afternoon and there were reports that parts of old Church Street were cordoned off for safety reasons as roof tiles were blown from buildings.

Power supplies were affected with lights and power flickering on and off and some properties in darkness for hours.

However, Whitby and the surrounding area appeared to have got off lightly compared to mass levels of flooding that have been seen in other parts of the county such as York, Tadcaster and Leeds.
