WHITBY Stroke Club has been forced to close after almost a quarter of a century.
The group met monthly to provide support to victims of strokes but now, due to falling numbers, it has been forced to disband.
Group member Kathleen Pierce had attended the group ever since it started in 1986 and she would like to thank everyone who helped the club be a success over that period: “There’s so many people, including the Whitby Lions, who’ve helped us one way or another and I want to say thank you to everybody for what they done for us.”
Mrs Pierce had a severe stroke 27 years ago and she said that the support provided by the group had been invaluable.
She added: “We got together to help people who had had strokes and to encourage each other.
“It’s sad that the group has had to stop.”
