Memory cafe for dementia sufferers

WHITBY’S Alzheimer’s society is launching a memory cafe at the Green Lane Centre in Whitby on Tuesday 16 August.

The Alzheimer’s Society for Scarborough, Whitby and Ryedale is opening the cafe for people with dementia, their carers, families and friends.

A dementia support worker and other staff from the society will be on hand at the cafe, which will be open from 2pm to 3.30pm.

Alzheimer’s Society’s Helen Williams said: “We have established memory cafe’s in Scarborough and Filey which have proved very successful, so we are now going to be offering this service in Whitby from August and in Pickering later in the year.

“The cafe is an opportunity for people with dementia and their carers to meet up with other people in similar situations, as well as our staff, to discuss any concerns, enjoy a chat and perhaps make new friends.

“We are looking forward to supporting many more people with dementia in the Whitby area.”
