Help for victims of domestic abuse

A DOMESTIC abuse awareness day is to be held in Whitby’s Children’s Centre in Byland Road on 6 July.

The event is aimed at victims of domestic abuse who want to find out more about the support services available to them.

Angela Hartley, domestic abuse coordinator for Whitby, said: “This launch offers a real opportunity for all victims of domestic abuse in Whitby - both male and female - to come along to see what local services are available.

“There will be a member of the domestic abuse services available to explain all the services available, including the role of the children’s therapeutic worker and the Making Safe scheme will be explained.”

Domestic abuse is characterised as any violent or abusive behaviour between adults who are, or who have been intimate partners or family members, regardless of gender or sexuality.

The abuse can be physical, psychological, sexual, financial or emotional.

Transport is available for the event and can be requested by calling (01609) 533819.

Anyone who would like to speak to someone about domestic abuse can call the national 24-hour Domestic Violence Helpline on 0808 2000247 or Domestic Abuse Services locally on (01723) 365609.
