The deadline for having your say on the future of health care in Whitby has been extended.

Health bosses say that dozens of people in the Whitby area have already made their views known about a draft health plan which has been drawn up by local GPs and the number of surveys returned has surpassed expectations.

Over 80 people attended public meetings about the plans held earlier this month but they want even more views on the ‘Fit 4 the Future’ proposals which cover 16 key areas, including the future of Whitby Hospital.

Dr George Campbell is a GP at Whitby Group Practice and deputy chair of the NHS Hambleton, Richmondshire and Whitby Clinical Commissioning Group which is taking forward healthcare in the town.

He said: “We have been really pleased at the level of interest in the Vision for the future of healthcare in Whitby and the surrounding area. It’s really underlined how much value local people place in their local services.

“The Vision, while detailed, is still up for discussion and more work is needed to refine it. That’s exactly what we’re doing it and people’s opinions will be used to update and refresh the Vision to make sure it’s reflective of local opinion.”

Closing date for views is now 4.30pm next Friday and new comments will be used to re-define the plan. Copies are available in local surgeries or by going online at
