Ambulance service looking for community response

PEOPLE in Whitby are being encouraged to be potential lifesavers by becoming volunteer responders.

In medical emergencies treatment in those first few minutes is critical and first responders play a vital part in saving lives and reducing disabilities.

The Yorkshire Ambulance Service NHS Trust is looking for locals to join the Community First Responder Scheme and an open evening for anyone interested is taking place tonight.

It will be at Whitby Evangelical Church, Skinner Street at 7pm.

New recruits will be trained in cardio pulmonary resuscitation (cpr), using an automatic external defibrillator to restart the heart and carrying portable oxygen.

Applicants should be over 18, physically fit, have a full driving licence (having never been banned and with no more than three points) and the ambulance service will also run Criminal Records Bureau checks on candidates.
