Guide Dogs celebrate 80th birthday

GUIDE Dogs for the blind are celebrating their 80th birthday this year (that’s 333 in dog years) and the charity is asking for Whitby residents’ help to allow its good work to continue.

For those who raise £5,000 or more, there’s the chance to name and meet the guide dog puppy their fund-raising will support.

Lisa Knight, fund-raising manager, said: “2011 is an important year because it marks the start of our vision for the next 80 years.

“We will not rest until blind and partially sighted people have the same freedom as everyone else.

“But since Guide Dogs receives no funding from the government or any other body we rely on donations from individuals, community groups and local businesses to support the vital work we do.”

To help Guide Dogs provide mobility and independence for more blind and partially-sighted people visit or call the local fund-raising office on 0870 6002323.
