Diners in Whitby can go crustacean crazy this week as part of a new festival in the town to celebrate locally caught crab and lobster.
Diners at the Fishermen’s Wife harbour view fish and chip, seafood restaurant and takeaway will be able to choose from 10 sustainable lobster and crab dishes between now and July 17 .
The crustaceans have been caught by local seafood heroes Andy Beavis and Will Crooks (pictured) and people will be able to sample some of these during the crab and lobster festival, which got under way earlier this week.
Whole Whitby-caught lobsters served in their shell, sharing platters of crab, lobster and prawns and twice-baked Whitby crab and goat’s cheese soufflé – just off the boats outside the restaurant window – are just some of the dishes on offer during the event at the highly acclaimed, family-run restaurant in Khyber Pass.
Fishermen’s Wife manager Steve Bushby is urging the local community to support the inaugural event.
“We’ve always been passionate about sustainable fish and seafood,” he said.
“And with the French, Italians and Spanish agreeing that Whitby has some of the best shellfish in the world – after all, up to 50% of British crab and lobster is exported to them each year – why not get your claws into some of it before it goes?
“Our chefs have been working hard on creating some classic and unusual dishes for the festival, and with one of the best uninterrupted sea views in Whitby you’ll be able to enjoy the view and eat the view during July.”
