Don’t miss the opportunity to see an amazing exhibition of art work by local artists which is currently on display at the Pannett Art Gallery, Whitby.
Members of the Whitby Art Society have created an incredible display of paintings, collage, embroidery, print and drawings, in a diverse range of styles and subject matter.
The exhibition includes work by Art Society members who are just embarking on their artistic career as well as paintings by a number of well respected professional artists.
There are many interesting viewpoints and unusual styles, however the one unifying feature is the high quality of the work on show.
Visit the gallery to see the beautifully atmospheric sweeping North Yorkshire Landscape painting by Peter Hicks, which transports you to a moorland scene.
Also featured are the colourful geometric oil paintings of Anne Thornhill which give an impression of reflected and refracted light, abstracting an image while also creating a truthful representation.
Linda Kjelldahl has created delicate woven textiles in subtle neutral shades including her work Sea Foam which incorporates shell beading and metallic threads.
These are just a tiny selection of examples from the many talented creative members of the group, only a visit to the gallery can do justice to the range and quality of art works on display.
Each year, there are hundreds of artworks submitted for the exhibition and it is an extremely difficult job for the team of selectors to choose which works to display, and then to work out how to make such a disparate group of paintings into a coherent exhibition.
The group of Whitby Art Society members who take on this task have done an exceptional job this year, creating a lovely exhibition.
Whitby Art Society has been in existence for more than 40 years and currently has about 90 members.
They meet from 7pm to 9pm on the second Wednesday of the month at Sneaton Castle, Castle Road, Whitby and their monthly meetings take the form of a demonstration or talk by an invited professional artist or craftsperson.
They are a friendly group and new members are always welcome.
The exhibition is at the Pannett Art Gallery in the beautiful Pannett Park until May 2.
The gallery is open 9am to 5pm Mondayto Saturday and 9.30am to 4.30pm on Sundays.
Last admission is half an hour before closing. Admission to the gallery is free.
