A FORMER Whitby police inspector has been promoted to one of the top positions within North Yorkshire Police.

Chief Superintendant Iain Spittle will become temporary assistant chief constable with responsibility for frontline policing services.

The changes within the force come following the retirement of Deputy Chief Constable Adam Briggs.

Mr Spittle joined the force in 1986 and worked the beat in Ryedale before becoming an advanced car driver and police motorcyclist.

In 1994 he was promoted to sergeant and in 2000 became an Inspector and became the local area commander at Whitby where he says his real journey into leading and developing teams began.

Within three years he was Superintendant and progressed up the ranks overseeing corporate communications and human resources matters.
