Footbridge folly claim councillors

WHITBY Town Council (WTC) is going to write a letter to the harbour board to complain about the timing of the works to reinstate the footbridge to the West Pier extension.

It is due to be reinstated towards the end of July subject to sea conditions but residents and businesses of the town have said the timing of works interfere with the tourist and fishing season.

Mayor of Whitby, Coun John Freeman said: “All we can do is say we can see it is going ahead but it is an incredibly thoughtless time given the temporary bridge was substantial enough to last until the back end of the year when things are quieter.”
