A father and his 11 year-old daughter were rescued from stormy seas at Robin Hood’s Bay after surviving half an hour in the water.

Both of Whitby’s lifeboats were despatched to search waters on Sunday afternoon after reports the pair had been dragged through the surf and past the breakers.

With the help of the coastguard they found the pair who were physically exhausted and got them into the inshore boat and transferred them to the All Weather vessel.

It was decided to transfer them by winch to Coastguard helicopter as both needed hospital treatment due to severe cold and fatigue.
