Fan-tash-tic Bay festival
When Captain Fawcett told Berties he would arrive by chopper they assumed a 1970s bike '“ so when a helicopter flew into Robin Hood's Bay, they knew the Beard Festival had got off to a flying start.
Berties of Bay held the first Bay Beard Festival in the village, where scores of locals and tourists gathered to bring their fan-tash-tic creations together all in aid of Movember.
Men, women, kids and dogs were dancing singing and laughing in the streets as well as raising awareness and spirits to highlight the issues around prostate cancer and men’s mental health issues.
One family, the Bates, had travelled from Durham to join in as they were so passionate about the cause, after a family member died last year.
Captain Fawcett, aka Richie Finney, the UK’s top Hirsute Advisor, was on hand to judge the competition. Richie works with David Beckham and on productions such as Lord of the Rings and Game of Thrones.
Organiser Laura Hepburn said: “It has been a tremendous success - we have raised over £350 in two hours. People’s generosity is unbelievable here.
“This is an event which, like the beards in the village, will grow and grow.”
If anyone wants to donate, fundraising is continuing on the Bay Beard Festival Just Giving page.
